This page explains what happens to your email address when you join the EncodeOS waitlist. EncodeOS is built and run by Mohamed Elbanna. If you have any question about your data, or want to use any of the rights below, email [email protected].
We only ask for your email address in the waitlist form. We don't ask for your name or anything else.
Our email service, Kit, also records sign-up and confirmation times, delivery information, and activity such as email opens and link clicks. It can estimate your location from those interactions. Kit's subscriber data terms explain how it handles this information.
To send you what you signed up for: occasional updates about EncodeOS, invitations to test it, and news when it launches. We rely on your consent, which you give by signing up and then confirming your email. We won't add you to anything else, and we never sell your email address.
Kit stores our list and provides email delivery, reporting and security. Kit is based in the United States, so your information may be processed outside the UK and the EU. For these transfers, Kit commits to Data Privacy Framework protections and uses standard contractual clauses where needed. Its data processing terms set out those safeguards. You can ask us for a copy.
You can, at any time and for free:
You can also object to uses of your data based on legitimate interests, where this right applies.
Email [email protected] and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
The waitlist is meant for high school and university students and anyone else learning a subject. If you're under 16, ask a parent or guardian before you sign up.
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks. Its retention policy takes account of why it holds the data and any legal duties.
To see how many people visit and where they come from, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts page views and records the page you visited, the site that sent you here, your type of browser and device, your country, and page-load timings. It uses no cookies, doesn't follow you to other sites and doesn't identify you. Our analytics never include your email address.
Cloudflare keeps the full visit records for seven days, then only a small sample for longer-term reporting. Its analytics documentation says we can access the previous six months of data.
For hosting and security, we rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the site available and safe. We also rely on legitimate interests for cookieless analytics, to understand visits and improve the site.
The site has no adverts and no tracking cookies. When you send the waitlist form, your browser connects to Kit to deliver your address, and Kit's security service may set a short-lived cookie to tell people from bots.
If this page changes, the date at the top will change with it. If a change affects how we use your email address, we'll tell you by email first.
